What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device to remember information between visits. Similar technologies, including local storage and session storage, work the same way. On Traildek we use cookies in three categories: essential cookies that keep the site working (signing you in, holding your cart, processing payment), analytics cookies that help us understand which trails and decks people love, and (eventually) marketing cookies for measuring campaigns you have consented to.
This page lists every cookie and storage entry we use. It is the source of truth: if you ever notice a cookie that is not listed here, please tell us at privacy@traildek.com.
Cookies and storage we use
| Cookie / Storage | Category | Purpose | Duration | First / Third party |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| __clerk_* | Essential | Authentication and session management for signed-in users | Session | First (Clerk) |
| tdk_consent | Essential | Stores your cookie consent choice so we do not ask on every page | 12 months | First |
| tdk_anon_id | Analytics | Anonymous session linking so we can measure aggregate site usage (added in a later phase) | 12 months | First |
| tdk_cart | Essential | Keeps your shopping cart contents between visits | 30 days | First |
| stripe.* | Essential | Fraud prevention and payment processing during checkout | Session | Third (Stripe) |
This list grows as we ship new features. Each addition will be published here before the cookie is set in production.
Managing your cookies
On your first visit we ask whether you want to accept analytics and marketing cookies in addition to the essential ones we need to run the site. You can change that decision at any time:
- Open the Cookie Settings link in the footer of any page. The consent panel will reopen with your current choices pre-selected so you can update them.
- Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it. If you turn analytics off, we delete the related identifier immediately and stop further collection.
- You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Removing essential cookies may make parts of the site (such as sign-in and checkout) stop working.
For Stripe's own cookies, see Stripe's privacy policy. For Clerk's authentication cookies, see Clerk's privacy policy.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
The Do Not Track (DNT) browser setting was never finalized as a standard, and different browsers send it inconsistently. We do not rely on DNT for compliance decisions.
We do honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. If your browser sends GPC, we treat it as an opt-out of the sale and sharing of personal information: analytics and marketing cookies default to off, and the consent panel shows that your GPC signal has been respected. For more on this, see our Privacy Policy.
Changes to this policy
If we add or remove cookies, we update this page. When the changes are material — for example, adding a new third party or a new category — we will re-prompt you for consent.
